Like all contracts, construction agreements specify the parties involved in the project and spell out their roles and responsibilities. Compensation – amounts and the timing of payments – are specified.
Beyond that, construction contracts are in essence blueprints for the project. They specify materials and equipment to be used. The design of the building. The dimensions of every room, the finishing touches. The time allocated to each stage of the construction. The duties and obligations of the parties after the building is completed.
None of this can be produced in a vacuum. It requires a deep understanding of what it takes to successfully complete a project. That understanding is not worth much without the ability to recognize the other party’s needs and negotiate an agreement. Then, that agreement must be clearly spelled out in unambiguous language.
